Commanding the Best Price
When you decide it’s time to upgrade, getting the best price for your current ride is a priority. Here is how you prepare your bike for the market.
1. Stock is Best
While you might love your loud aftermarket exhaust or custom paint job, the next buyer might not. Return the bike to its stock condition as much as possible. Stock bikes are perceived as "unabused."
2. Eradicate the Rust
Rust is the biggest turn-off for a buyer. Use rust removers or WD-40 on the chain, exhaust pipes, and chrome bits. If a screw is badly rusted, replace it.
3. Fix "Feel" Items
Buyers focus heavily on how the bike feels. Fix a sticky throttle cable, adjust a loose clutch lever, and ensure the brakes bite firmly. These tiny fixes radically improve the test ride experience.
4. Paperwork Impeccability
Renew the PUC. Ensure you have the original RC, valid insurance (preferably comprehensive), and all service records. A documented service history allows you to ask for a premium.
5. Professional Wash and Polish
Before taking photos or showing the bike, get it properly pressure washed, and apply a coat of wax to the tank and fairings. Blacken the tires and plastic trims.
