The Lifeblood of Your Engine

Choosing the correct engine oil is the single most important decision for your engine's longevity. But what do all the grades and types mean?

Understanding the Viscosity Grade (e.g., 10W-40)

The number before the 'W' (Winter) represents the oil's flow rate when cold. The lower the number, the better it flows at startup. The second number represents thickness at operating temperatures. Always strictly follow the manufacturer's recommended grade.

1. Mineral Oil

Refined directly from crude oil. It is inexpensive but breaks down exactly quickly under high heat. Perfect for older, low-revving engines or the initial break-in period of a new vehicle.

2. Semi-Synthetic Oil

A blend of mineral and synthetic oils. It offers better high-temperature protection than mineral oil at a budget-friendly price. The ideal choice for daily driving in standard traffic.

3. Fully Synthetic Oil

Engineered in a lab for unmatched performance. It resists thermal breakdown, prevents sludge buildup, and improves fuel economy. While expensive, it is mandatory for high-performance engines and heavily recommended for all modern turbo-charged vehicles.

When to Upgrade?

If you've been using mineral oil, switching to fully synthetic on your next service (after a quick engine flush) will noticeably improve engine smoothness and reduce startup noise.

Confused? Use MotoTrust to book a service, and our experts will automatically utilize the optimal oil grade for your exact vehicle specs.
