Navigating the RTO Paperwork

Finding the perfect used car is only half the battle. Transferring ownership legally via the RTO requires specific documentation.

Mandatory RTO Forms

  • Form 29: Notice of transfer of ownership. You need two copies, signed by the seller.
  • Form 30: Report of transfer of ownership. Signed by both the buyer and the seller.

Vehicle Documents

  • Original RC: Registration Certificate of the vehicle.
  • Valid Insurance: A copy of the active motor insurance policy.
  • PUC Certificate: Valid Pollution Under Control certificate.

Seller Documents

  • Passport size photographs.
  • Self-attested copy of PAN card.
  • Self-attested copy of address proof (Aadhar, Passport).
  • Form 28 / NOC: (No Objection Certificate) required only if the car is being transferred between different RTOs or states.
  • Form 35 / Bank NOC: Essential if the car was bought on a loan. It proves the financier has removed hypothecation.

Buyer Documents

  • Passport size photographs.
  • Self-attested copy of PAN card.
  • Self-attested copy of address proof.
