Navigating the RTO Paperwork
Finding the perfect used car is only half the battle. Transferring ownership legally via the RTO requires specific documentation.
Mandatory RTO Forms
- Form 29: Notice of transfer of ownership. You need two copies, signed by the seller.
- Form 30: Report of transfer of ownership. Signed by both the buyer and the seller.
Vehicle Documents
- Original RC: Registration Certificate of the vehicle.
- Valid Insurance: A copy of the active motor insurance policy.
- PUC Certificate: Valid Pollution Under Control certificate.
Seller Documents
- Passport size photographs.
- Self-attested copy of PAN card.
- Self-attested copy of address proof (Aadhar, Passport).
- Form 28 / NOC: (No Objection Certificate) required only if the car is being transferred between different RTOs or states.
- Form 35 / Bank NOC: Essential if the car was bought on a loan. It proves the financier has removed hypothecation.
Buyer Documents
- Passport size photographs.
- Self-attested copy of PAN card.
- Self-attested copy of address proof.
