Safety First: Listening to Your Brakes

Braking systems in both cars and bikes operate on friction. Over time, components wear out. Recognizing the early warning signs of brake failure can literally save your life.

1. High-Pitched Squealing

This is intentionally designed. Most brake pads have a small metal indicator that rubs against the rotor when the pads become dangerously thin. If you hear squealing, book a service visit immediately.

2. Grinding Noises

If you ignore the squealing, you will eventually hear a harsh metal-on-metal grinding sound. This means your brake pads are completely gone, and the calipers are digging into the rotors, causing expensive damage.

3. Spongy or Soft Brake Pedal/Lever

If you have to press the brake pedal to the floor or the bike lever feels "mushy", you likely have air or moisture in the brake lines, or a leak in the brake fluid system.

4. Pulling to One Side

If your car aggressively pulls to the left or right when braking, it could indicate a stuck brake caliper or uneven pad wear.

5. Vibrations or Pulsations

A steering wheel that shakes violently under braking usually indicates warped brake rotors. This occurs due to extreme heat cycles or improper lug nut torque.
